Tchaikovsky鈥檚 much-loved 鈥楶ath茅tique鈥� Symphony, with its thrilling Scherzo, and Sibelius鈥檚 colourful Karelia suite, are joined by Mieczys艂aw Weinberg鈥檚 Cello Concerto, which remained unperformed until after Stalin鈥檚 death. Sol Gabetta is the soloist.

About This Event

Dalia Stasevska makes her Proms debut as the 麻豆约拍 Symphony Orchestra鈥檚 newly appointed Principal Guest Conductor.

Cellist Sol Gabetta joins them to celebrate the centenary of one of the 20th century鈥檚 great unsung heroes, Mieczys艂aw Weinberg, whose Cello Concerto 鈥� premiered by Rostropovich in 1957, a decade after it was written 鈥� deserves a place alongside those of his great friend and colleague Shostakovich.

The programme also includes Tchaikovsky鈥檚 much-loved 鈥楶ath茅tique鈥� Symphony, with its thrilling Scherzo, and Sibelius鈥檚 suite Karelia a stirring celebration of Finland鈥檚 proud history.
