On 11th August 1973, DJ Kool Herc threw a party and hip hop was born. To celebrate 50 years of this political and game-changing genre, rapper and playwright Testament hosts a discussion with a panel closely associated with Leeds and West Yorkshire: UK rapper Jehst, writer and spoken word performer Michelle Scally Clarke and hip hop luminary Paul Oddball Edmeade. The panel will reflect upon Leeds’ very own hip hop scene, and consider the poetics of raps, rhymes and flows, and hip hop’s influence on the literary world and beyond.
