About This Event
The Â鶹ԼÅÄ Concert Orchestra presents a programme of orchestral favourites at Great Yarmouth’s Hippodrome. Whirligig waltzes from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel and from Khachaturian’s ballet Masquerade set things spinning. Written for a dance spectacle featuring 50 elephants, Stravinsky’s Circus Polka brings all the colour and wit of the big top, reflecting the Hippodrome’s original purpose as a circus venue. As well as a new commission from British composer Sarah Rodgers, the programme features pieces by two earlier towering figures of English music: Walton’s stirring coronation march Crown Imperial and Vaughan Williams’s ever-popular soaring piece for solo violin and orchestra, The Lark Ascending.
