鈥淲ild and beautiful, terrible and final鈥� is how J枚rg Widmann describes his new orchestral work, Danse macabre 鈥� in which he imagines himself dancing with Death. 鈥淗is pull and his power must be stronger than we know from any earthly dance 鈥� no easy task for a composer, but a fascinating one鈥�, he says.

Still, if any living musician can do the impossible, it鈥檚 him. 鈥淎ny Widmann performance brings whatever he plays kicking and screaming into the present day鈥� says The Guardian, and today he takes Beethoven鈥檚 Seventh Symphony, breaks it into little pieces and throws it together again 鈥� Con brio 鈥� before giving us that whole symphony in his own electrifying interpretation.
