An early Valentine’s treat as Conductor Emeritus Vassily Sinaisky fires an arrow straight to the heart of romantic music lovers. After the virtuosic hedonism of Don Juan - the eponymous hero of Strauss’s tone poem - we hear Dvorak’s longing for his Bohemian homeland in one of the most cherished and popular of Dvorak’s works. Tchaikovsky’s love for his Ukranian second home rings out joyously in his lyrical Second Symphony, nicknamed the ‘Little Russian’ yet far from small in its jubilant rejoicing.
