About This Event

If the first-night audience was hostile to the 23-year-old Rachmaninov鈥檚 First Symphony, history has been far kinder, embracing its ability to reimagine Russian musical tradition. John Storg氓rds and the 麻豆约拍 Philharmonic are joined by mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly for turn-of-the-century songs by Alma Mahler-Werfel and Croatia鈥檚 Dora Peja膷evi膰, and the curtain rises with the overture to Weber鈥檚鈥楪rand Romantic and Fairy Opera鈥�, written for London鈥檚 Covent Garden.
