With mighty ambition and heavenwards serenity, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis is one of his most searching works. It is a mass setting of colossal, weighty scale, and decidedly a ‘bucket list’ piece to experience and marvel at in the 250th anniversary year of Beethoven’s birth. With a classy line-up of soloists from the UK and the United States, Conductor Laureate Tadaaki Otaka concludes the Hoddinott Hall season in grand style.
