About the music
Welcome back to the Â鶹ԼÅÄ SSO’s first concert in Aberdeen since February 2020. And as if to balance all those days we’ve spent inside, here’s a concert full of energy that paints pictures of the outdoors. We set sail with Mendelssohn’s famous depiction of his boat trip to Staffa, music of grandeur that rises and falls in time with the waves.
Akutagawa’s Triptyque for string orchestra is propelled by driving rhythms and echoes of Stravinsky, Britten, and the composer’s friend Shostakovich. So you’ll be raring to go by the time conductor Yutaka Sado leads us on a cross-country ramble (uncertain weather and all) through Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony, the musical equivalent of inhaling lungfuls of fresh air.
*For this concert, we request that anyone attending should be double vaccinated, or have recorded a negative lateral flow test within 48 hours prior to attending this event, or have natural immunity based on an antibody test taken within 180 days prior to the concert.
