The video for Prides’ recent single Higher Love was shot in bingo hall in Scotland and features a caller introducing the band to a bunch of rather uninterested-looking bingo players. “Right, it’s time for a short musical interlude,” the caller says. “Band from Glasgow and they’re going to play some electronic popular music.” And that’s a perfectly decent description of Prides, who were supported by 鶹Լ Introducing in Scotland, got signed to a major label and are set to make a major breakthrough when their debut album, The Way Back Up, is released in July.
Prides specialise in emotionally charged lyrics and big choruses. They played the 鶹Լ Introducing stage at Reading/Leeds last year, then performed a beautiful session for 鶹Լ Radio in Scotland, during which they temporarily changed their synths for pianos. And much as we’d like to forever claim Prides as our own, we fear they’ll soon be public property. Glastonbury is just the beginning for these young pop chargers.
