Concert Information

Guildhall musicians reveal Julian Anderson’s musical voice on a smaller scale, exploring both the breadth as well as the depth of his compositional output.

Four chamber works that span 21 years of Julian Anderson’s compositional output: The Colour of Pomegranates for alto flute and piano is the earliest work here, while Van Gogh Blue (inspired by the exuberance of many of the letters of the Dutch artist) and Ring Dance show Anderson’s most recent musical voice.

Poetry Nearing Silence was inspired by the paintings of Tom Phillips which in turn were created by painting over an obscure Victorian novel: it’s a magical score full of extraordinary sounds and textures.
