Concert Information

Join Hertfordshire Chorus, Musical Director David Temple, the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Concert Orchestra and special guest performers Samuel West and Ben Johnson for a concert marking the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Bliss’s choral symphony for chorus, orchestra and narrator, in this performance spoken by actor Samuel West, was composed as a tribute to his brother and all those who died in the First World War. Tenor Ben Johnson sings Britten’s setting of WH Auden, composed to honour British casualties in the Spanish Civil War, while Gurney’s orchestral A Gloucestershire Rhapsody contrasts the composer’s experiences of the Flanders trenches and the beautiful landscape of his homeland.
