Event Information:
Austrian composer Franz Schubert was a prolific composer and wrote more than 1000 pieces, many of them songs. By the time he was twenty he had penned no less than six symphonies and the two that bookend this concert have all the freshness and youthfulness you would expect from a teenager.
Symphony No.3 pays homage to symphonic predecessors such as Haydn and Mozart while No.4 is darker, hinting that Schubert’s world might have already been clouded by deeper thoughts. Between them, there’s a group of his popular songs in arrangements for orchestra.
