About This Event

It was London that brought Grace Williams together with Ralph Vaughan Williams, her teacher at the Royal College of Music, and Benjamin Britten, a fellow student there.

From the thrilling ride of Britten’s 1943 string showpiece, to Williams’ rarely performed 1950 Violin Concerto, we turn to Vaughan Williams’ fifth symphony. Composed during World War Two, this symphony is a contemplative yet rhythmically exciting and exquisitely flowing antithesis to the surrounding turmoil.
