Petrushka
Conductor Mark Wigglesworth becomes the puppet-master at Stravinsky’s Shrovetide Fair. Petrushka, the rebellious and chaotic jester, falls in love with the Ballerina but his advances aren’t reciprocated. Playful rhythms paint the picture of a flailing, dancing puppet – whose anger and despair as the Ballerina falls in love with the Moor leads to a tragic end. This Russian folk story is complemented by the German folk poems of Mahler, performed by Roderick Williams.
