Concert information

Asian sounds and colours permeate the first Hear and Now of the orchestra’s 2017/18 Season. Claude Vivier’s piece reflects the famous book by Hermann Hesse depicting a spiritual journey of a young man in search of enlightenment. Hesse’s poem 'Im Nebel' ('In the Mist') also inspired a trumpet concerto in 2013 by the Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa (here receiving its UK Premiere) while his countryman Toru Takemitsu is represented by his tribute to the US composer Morton Feldman. Stravinsky's tone poem based on Hans Christian Andersen's tale, 'The Nightingale' begins this concert conducted by the Â鶹ԼÅÄ SSO’s Artist-in-Association, Matthias Pintscher.

The works by Toshio Hosokawa, Takemitsu and Vivier will be broadcast later tonight (10.00pm) on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3's 'Hear and Now';
Stravinsky's 'Le Chant du rossignol' will be recorded for future broadcast on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3.

Tickets available from Monday 2 October 2017
