I would like to draw your attention to an inaccuracy on one the program on ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ News:The Gulf: Armed & Dangerous

There is no β€œGulf” per se; the region is in fact internationally recognised as the Persian Gulf. This title has been endorsed by the United Nations in pursuance of the Economic and Social Council resolution 715 A (XXVII) of 23 April 1959, and has been enshrined in UN documents UNAD, 311/Qen on March 5, 1971 and UNLA 45.8.2 (C)on August 10, 1984. Additionally The United Nations Oceans and Law of the Sea Office uses only the term Persian Gulf in its legal documents. The lack of acknowledgement of this on ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ programs deeply concerns me , as to re-title the Persian Gulf by another name is tantamount to attempting to erasing and rewriting the history of this region. I respectfully request that you use the right title which is 'PERSIAN GULF' on your related programs to this region.

    Kind regards

    Hi

This isn't the site for passing on thoughts and errata to the makers of the programmes, as this is a general forum for people interested in history to discuss matters. So your thoughts are very unlikely to be read by those its aimed at.

I suggest you contact Points of View, or the actual makers of the programme itself (which would have been on the opening and closing credits).

    Regards

Incidentally, in normal everyday British English, most people know that it is the Persian Gulf that is being discussed when they see the phrase "The Gulf". Although it may not be the offical international title of the body of water, it is a name that is in use and is understood, and so the programme makers are certainly within their rights to use it as such. Programme makers do NOT have to use internationally recognised or accepted names for bodies of water in their programme names.
