If any of you are following the unrest in Egypt, this gives a continuous update from an archaeological perspective with an emphasis on the effects on museum collections and sites..

Thank you for that site news, ferval - an alarming situation for the devoted custodians of their heritage and historical treasures. After the war in Iraq and widespread looting apparently much was later returned. For all of the pleas, there will be obsessive collectors on the look out for such pieces. It's not always about value, is it - just owning something that links with the past. I wonder why that is?

On the other hand, raundsgirl, he has got a fancy new job with an impressive title, Minister of Antiquities. Sounds like a position with responsibility for the House of Lords.
That will suit a modest, retiring and publicity shy character like him.
