Gilgamesh

  Hi
  
  I am very interested in the idea of ancient 'mythical' people being proven to exist. I like the fact that there is some evidence to show that perhaps Priam of Troy had dealings with the Hittites.
  
  Further to this I am fascinated by the idea that the tomb of Gilgamesh may have been discovered. I would love to know more. If anyone has worked on the dig or knows where some more information could be found I would be most grateful.

  The ghost of one H.Schliemann and his discovery of "The Mask of Agamemnon" prompts me to be a little cautious. I suspect this may be a spurious find - though it may well be very old, Gilgamesh was such an iconic figure in Mesopotamian legend that it would not surprise me to find that some later ruler, after Uruk had lost its pre-eminence, arranged for this tomb to be "found". Holy Lance, anyone?
