Has anyone here seen the recently released film Agora? It is a reasonably accurate telling of what happened to the female philosopher Hypatia in Alexandria in about 390, at the time when Christianity was taking over and the old religions being suppressed.

I would take issue with the part where Hypatia comes up with an elipse for the motion of planets, for there is no record that she did that.

The film should have been called "The Death of Free Speech". Calling it Agora only puts people off, most people do not know what an Agora was.

We saw this last night. I really enjoyed the "reconstructed" Alexandria and the dilemmas of the story.

My wife prefers films that actually have a plot and resolution though. History just isn't neat and tidy enough for some.
