Just a quick note to say that the old messageboards will stay open for another two weeks (until the 11th August) so you can finish off your conversations:

After that they will be ‘read only’ for another two weeks before they are closed (25th August)
Please start any new discussions in the new boards and let us know what you think!

    Best Wishes,
    Lisa

    Hi Lisa

Dunno if it's me, or the new board's teething probs, but whenever I've posted a topic, there's been no box underneath to click 'if you want replies emailed to you' etc?

Consequently, I've no idea anyone's replied to my posts unless I chance looking in every so often- which is inconvenient.

Is there a way to do this, as there was on the old boards?

    Thanks.

    Ironside,

I find the new boards not so easily as the old ones. But instead of the See latest messages from the old boards, I look now to the hours from when I last viewed the board and then I look to all the messages within that time window. So I see who replied to me. If you go however for a couple of weeks on holidays as I and sometimes my friend John Hes, it is quite a problem to see the "latest" but that was the same problem on the old ones...

Or have I misunderstood your problem?

    Kind Regards.

    Lisa,

on the urgent problem about the boards closed during the night for our overseas friends. Tas Kahn tried as usual in his normal daylight to post, but he was forgotten that the boards were closed. He has to post if I understand it well before 6 o'clock PM on the Canadian eastcoast. But for the Americans not in retirement? And those from the Westcoast? And Caro and Little General from near the dataline, NZ and Australia. They have to post after 8 or 9 PM and during the night, if I calculated it well. For those as Ramachandra from India I haven't reckoned yet...And my new Russian friend Claimer? He could be from Vladivostok?

You said to lol beeble we will see. But now we see that the boards are closed for the foreigners from oversea during the European night. I think many potential interested ones from overseas will not contribute because of the closing time.

I know these boards are only for British and perhaps some surrounding land as we the Belgian friends, not to forget a Yorkshire man John Heseltine residing in Holland. Yes, I forgot, up to South Africa they have nearly the same hour.

    Warm regards,

and perhaps you can do something for my American friends and others as a heroic former Host Mark has done for us before...

    Paul from Bruges.

    Hi Paul

Maybe I haven't explained myself clearly- not your fault, but mine!

When I post a topic or reply on these new boards, I only ever know someone has replied to my posts by spontaneous check-ins, whereas on the old ones I used to be able to simply tick a box(below each typed preview post) that enabled a Â鶹ԼÅÄ email to notify me of a reply.

These email notification check-boxes are now missing- so how do I ensure that the Â鶹ԼÅÄ notify me of each reply to me now? I am looking at this very post as a preview, and there is nothing to ensure that I will be told of each reply.

    Cheers.

    Ironside,

excuse, now I understand. I never used this facility, but from time to time I received an E-mail from the Â鶹ԼÅÄ: someone has replied to your message with my original message showed. It only happened when I made exceptionally a bright reply. (smiley)

Yes, it is a sad thing. We have now emoticons but other services are lost as the option on the history boards for those of other timezones to reply during the night. Messages queued up till the next Â鶹ԼÅÄ morning...

    Warm regards.

    Hi Paul

Ah well I suppose they call it progress!

Maybe the Â鶹ԼÅÄ are cutting back their vast expenses in electric bills by 0.000000000000000008p per day by /not/ sending us those emails?

That huge saving will go towards a new tin of paint for the Beeb director's new yacht then!

    RRegards, Ironside ;-D

    Hi All,

It is bad news with regards to the opening hours I’m afraid. As Caro has informed me, the boards did close at midnight but members were allowed to submit messages which were read by the mods in the morning. I’ve been advised that this shouldn’t have been the case as the opening times always stated that the boards should close at midnight. We can’t support 24/7 opening across all of the boards at the moment so the opening times will continue to apply.

I understand that this will be disappointing to members posting overseas, I can only suggest that if members would like reply to a post out of hours, they construct and save a copy of their reply and post it when the board opens in the morning.

    Best Wishes,

    Lisa

The best thing about the new board is that you can post links and by clicking on your own name you can bring up a list of the posts you've made. You can post to a members page at any time 24/7 or you can go to h2g2 and post there. Click on this link -

    - and you will see the newest 20 posts on h2g2 or on this one -

    - for Points of View.
