I wonder if anyone here can tell me anything about the Roman odeon at Paphos, Cyprus?
All accounts I've been able to find say that it dates from 2nd century AD, and was 're-discovered' in 1973.
It seems very new to me! Can anyone confirm that the odeon was *totally* reconstructed in about 1973 - the whole structure seems very new to me.
(Sorry if this is a naive question - I'm a complete novice, but keen to learn.)
I found a reference on the internet saying 'the theatre [odeon] was partially restored'. It is likely that most of the odeon is original.

It hadn't been 'lost' prior to 1973, but that was the year that the site of the old city began to be excavated systematically.
The decision to restore the Odeon site, according to the Cypriot Antiquities Annual Report from 2003, was taken to lessen its vulnerability to erosion and other damage due to its situation near a large centre of population. Last year's Report mentions in passing that the restoration was criticised by some antiquarians as having been too thorough.

My mistake. 1962 was when the systematic excavation of Nea Pafos began. 1973 was when the Odeon, Agora and Asklepieion area was started (one should read whole articles before citing them!).
