Southern tomb of Djoser

    There seems to have been considerable discussion about the meaning of this tomb but yet again there may even be a simple explanation for its construction and the nearby Step Pyramid.

    By the time of the near completion of the southern tomb, Djoser may have also been near the completion of a normal life span for this period of history and the southern Tomb may have originally been intended for his burial. What was orignally the foundations of the Step Pyramid may have had some symbolic value.

    Possibly at this stage, with Djoser still being in excellent health, the southern tomb almost complete and ever increasing availabilty of materials, maybe the decision was made to stop work on the souther tomb and concentrate efforts on what became the Step Pyramid.

    As Djoser reigned possible far longer than anybody could've expected, the Second tomb became the substantial monument now known as the Step Pyramid.
