With the death of Thothmes II the only likely male contender was the very young child who eventually became Thothmes III.

As a small child growing up in a notoriously unhealthy country could there have been initially been some serious doubts about the health of this same child?

During one spate of illness could have Thothmes so seriously ill that Hatshepsut was almost compelled to move from being a dowager ruler to being the Pharaoh?

Perhaps to everybody's surprise, Thothmes did recover but Hatshepsut as a crowned Pharoah is possibly inviolable.

As the remains of Hatshepsut haven't been possitively identified her age on death cannot be ascertained but, a combination of Hatshepsut being much older than the child Thothmes and possible health problems may provide a simple answer to a cause of much argument.

If recent assessments are correct Thothmes doesn't seem to have taken any immediate revenge against his Aunts monuments so there doesn't seem to have been any personal grudge.
