Was Stonehenge a kind of Cathederal that was used to pay homage to the dead or a kind of observatory with which to track the passing seasons?

Stonehenge was used as a calendar, and it was used mostly for the Farmers to track the seasons so that they knew when to plant their crops!

Why is Stonehenge supposed to be impressive?
It doesn't look very impressive if you go to visit it.
It looks quite small.
Nothing like a 20th century skyscraper building, like the Empire State Building.
Are we supposed to admire Stonehenge in a patronising way.
"Oh look honey, there's some upright slabs of stone, with other ones on top - golly, weren't primitive people clever to do that".
Couldn't Stonehenge be knocked down, and the site cleared for a proper modern construction.
Like an observatory, equipped with a 100" telescope?

That's a very silly attitude malacandran. Stonehenge is an invaluable artifact of the early experiences of our ancestors and allows us an insight into how they viewed their environment. To know them is to know ourselves! Would you also demolish the Pyramids?
Silly boy.
