I came across a gem of an article, in scientific format, entitled "Head Injuries of Roman Gladiators" (Kanz and Grossschmidt,Forensic Science International, volume 160, pp207-216 (2006).

In this study, the cranial injuries of recently unearthed Gladiator remains in Ephesus, Turkey, gave a unique opportunity to study the fighting techniques and weaponry of gladiators...the knowledge of which had hitherto been known only from literary sources...so the article asserts....

Are there no other discovered mass burial sites of gladiators anywhere in the roman empire?

I've visited the museum, its in Selcuk, which is a pilum's throw from Ephesus. It's very interesting. With regards to your question I think there was some evidence from London of gladiator burials including a female gladiator.

IIRC it was one gladiator burial in a general cemetary. In any case, doubt has been cast on the burial being that of a gladiatrix at all.
