I have just returned from a visit to the North of Ireland in Portrush. When I was there I found a monument left to mark some historical findings in the area. Written on the notice describing the finds, included that Roman pottery was found there and of course evidence of the vikings.
I didn't know that Northern Ireland had Roman pottery in the area. Does anyone know of more Roman remains in Northern Ireland.
There isn't much in the way of Roman evidence, I believe. It's more a case of trading than settling, as far as the Romans are concerned.
Hi
I don't think that you necessarily need to look for evidence of Roman occupation. Roman artefacts had a habit of traveling. Plenty reached Orkney and Shetland for example.
Even in the post-Roman period traders from France moved up the west coast with the result that Gallic pottery from this era is found in Cornwall, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. What date was your material?

Even in pre-roman times trade was widespread, copper mined from the Great Orme in North Wales would have been alloyed with tin from Cornwall & some of the bronze has been found in Europe.
Also with the Grimes Graves flint mines estimated to have produced enough flint for 28 million axes, which seems a bit excessive for local use, a logical conclusion could be of a neolithic trade in flint.

Certainly in Jersey there are plenty of Neolithic flint tools (axes, hammers, arrowheads etc) but no natural flint in the Island, so trade of some sort must have been happening (though whether in items or raw materials or both we can't, of course, be sure).
