Is it any good?
Yup, it is - a bit like Sharpe, but there are three heroes - Cato and Macro (two junior officers) and Vespasian, and there's more blood and less sex. You also get to see Boudica in her pro-Roman days. By and large pretty accurate as well (IIRC, Simon is/was a history teacher). There are few minor innaccuracies (he places the Camp Prefect as 2nd in command of a legion instead of the Senior Tribune, and has lorica segmentata as brand new in AD44, whereas we now know it had been around since 1st century BC - but that one's more out-of-date than innaccurate).
But yes, very enjoyable.
