sorry paul it is back to normal now,
the point is that the pyrmaids are an optical illusion, did the designers know this when they built them.
Good,
and thanks.
Warm regards,
Paul.
How do you mean: an optical illusion?
This is something that has always puzzled me about the shape of an Egyptian pyramid.
The pyramid is big, but its height, doesn't greatly exceed its base width on the ground.
So the pyramid looks squat, rather than conveying an impression of towering up into the sky.
Why didn't the Egytian builders of a pyramid, imagine making it go up twice, or three times, as high as its base.
It would have looked much more impressive.
Was there a technical reason not to do it - would the stones have crumbled under the pressure of added height? But stone is very strong under compression.
So was it a failure of imagination by the Egyptians - what other reason could there be?

They did try. Do a quick image search for "bent pyramid" - the lower part was intended to have a steeper angle, but during construction they realized that the weight of the higher stones were crushing the loser stones causing the pyramid to lose structural integrity. They then changed the slope angle to be gentler which allowed the pyramid to stay up.
