Poland is a (one) tribe. It used to be very powerful in medival times. It was even more powerful in XII to XIV then England at that time. If someone doesn't agree, please reply!!!

part of polisg folklore is the story of the dragon that lived under a castle in krakow,as we all know there is no such thing as dragons so a lot of polisg folklore is by and large made up so take their history with a pinch of salt.

Poland’s ‘golden age’ lasted roughly from the 15th century to the mid 17th century (though it was territorially the largest state in Europe for somewhat longer). The name Poland, indeed, stems from the name of one tribe, the Polanie of Greater Poland (the regions around Poznan). ‘Pole’ in Polish means ‘field’ and that is what much of Poland’s post ice age landscape looks like. But up until 1945 Poland was anything but one tribe. Up until then, and especially in its heyday, this was very much a multicultural, multiethnic and multi-religious entity – not only Poles, but Germans, Tatars, Armenians, Jews, White Ruthenians (Byelorussians), Red Ruthenians (Ukrainians). Lithuanians, Latvians, Dutch, French, Swedish and Scottish economic migrants, Catholics, Lutherans, Calvinists, Mennonites, Russian Orthodox, Uniates, Jews and Muslims of all denominations for here there was full religious tolerance. The Turks called/still call(?) Poland Lechistan; Jews called Poland ‘Polin’ (the place to rest). But Hitler and Stalin with a little help from our Western friends (especially FDR) changed all that. But if in more recent history Poland seems to be a country heroically struggling for freedom that is because in the past it had been a great nation, a noble democracy with sophisticated laws and a profound understanding of ‘golden liberty’ that would only later be espoused by Western democracies.

You are talking about a legiond, which everyone know that is untrue. Thier is not much we know about the tribes living on theis lands, but most of the polish history is proved to be true.

Poland came of the maps, because Rusia, Germany and Austrya attacked tugether Polish lands and ocupaied them for more then 150 years. Alos polish "land owners" (the more richer part of the population) became very lazy, and had relised that Poland is in trabblre with its naber countryes too late.

michalp you did not offend me as i am very thick skinned, european history is so inter linked because so many countrys have borders beside each other or can access other countyrs from their own,the largest wars fought in the world have been fought in europe in the last 100 years and the last fifty years,

our past shapes our future, america britan poland and spain and japan invaded iraq and are occupying iraq as we speak, what strange bedfellows war makes.

    japan invaded iraq
    Ìý

I'm surprised that I never noticed this the first time round but there we go.

Japan, a country who's constitution is so tight on the use of arms and the ownership of a National Self Defence Force, who's same constitution had to be altered to allow PeaceKeepers to be deployed (to Iraq) and only allowed to deal with humanitarian/medical issues now was part of the invasion force? Wow, I really missed that one.

Reading? Porno Mags?? Wow, witty reposte. If you notice the main thrust of the post, I mention that you have the Japanese as part of the invasion force, whereas I have them acting in a purely humanitarian role after the invasion has been completed. Two very seperate issues. Now if you have evidence that Japan took part in the invasion I would love to see it as the Japanese constitution is rather strict on the use of arms to acheive national aims. It took a brave decision by Koziami to push for a alteration to that constitution just to allow unarmed Japanese troops to be deployed to Iraq to help deal with humanitarian relief. So again, please if you have evidence of Japanese troops taking part in the invasion I would love to see it

I know that there were/are Japanese troops in Iraq. If memory serves they have now all returned home to Japan. My point is that they were not part of the invasion force. Being there as part of the post war setup is not the same thing as partaking in the invasion itself.

No worries about the remarks. I'm big enough and ugly enough to take them smiley - biggrin

if i have something to say i say it,albeit sometimes with a smart remark, pulling posts for no reason is a form of censorship,

the complaints button is automatic, everytime a post is complained about it is pulled regardless of the content, try it and find out for yourself,

some people learn history from a book and never get their hands dirty, i would like to see these people who complain about mild posts haggle with a mainiac in the antiques buisseness who swears better than a ships cook in a storm.

to quote a great politcial figure if you cannot take the heat get out of the kitchen.

Despite terrible treatment the Polish people have shown huge talent and a very rich culture - let's just mention Chopin and Conrad for those who, like me, don't know the language.

Throughout the Nineteenth Century they were in the forefront of the battle for liberty, never giving up, and fighting in all sorts of places across the world. The Ghetto fighters and the patriots who rose against Hitler towards the War's end carried on that great tradition.

I think it is a pity that such a tradition should be reduced to the inter-offensiveness we see here.
