I have just got back from a holiday in Turkey and would like to recommend the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara. This has some fascinating finds from Catalhoyuk & other prehistoric sites, together with fine sections on the Hittites, Phrygians & Lydians who lived in the area later. For anyone interested in the pre-classical era of ancient history it's a 'must see'

I was in Turkey for the solar eclipse and I was very impressed by some of the museums there. My favourite had to be the tiny one at Selcuk, nr Ephesus. This houses some of the archaeology from the Artemiseum - The Temple of Artemis.

I too have enjoyed the museums in Turkey. Less arty crafty display and fancy lighting and more pieces on display - a bit Ashmolean - unless that too has been changed. However, there is one thing someone may be able to put me right about I swear I saw a small browned skull cap in the religious section at Top Kepi labelled 'the skull of John the Baptist as a child.'
Soon after I went to a church to see the vising 'skull of St Andrew" - but he had already left - as the notice said, 'on tour.'
Shortly afterwards I believe St Andrew was reassembled - bits being in Rome etc. Where he rests now I know not. I doubt they found the finger that was lost at St Andrews in Scotland. Whatever it was all useful info when raising the 'Pious memory" toast at a St Andrews night. Imagine - Scots asked an English woman to do that!!! Things have moved on a pace in 10 years.
    Regards P.

All the museums mentioned here are well worth a visit. Also, the museums in Istanbul near to topkapi (archaeological museum and museum of ancient orient/calligraphy & mosaics museum) are all worth the effort.

The small museum at Alacahoyuk also has some impressive hittite/assyrian artefacts. However, the ancient ruins of Hattusas is almost a museum in itself: pots and containers left in situ etc
