I know this happened but what followed? Was anything found or returned from those fantastic collections?

    Hi Priscilla,
So much was stolen, it's difficult to keep up with. Several things happened soon afterwards. A retired Chief of Police from either Chicago or NY was tasked to do what he could. He set up his HQ in the Museum. He started a no questions asked return policy. This was met with quite a bit of success. Then many of the artifacts were for sale in the local markets. These of course were confiscated. Within a few weeks many items were showing up for sale overseas. Quite a lot was recovered but much of it is still out there. Sadly many treasures were also vandalized and for all practical purposes near ruined. A few months ago a whole lot was recovered from the vaults of the bank of Iraq that had been flooded. There is one entire room full that has yet to have returned even one item. Some of the Museum staff is suspect. I imagine some will be in private collections for generations. It's all so sad.

    Cheers, Matthew.

Thanks for that info, Matt. Yes, it is sad We tease each other on these boards for our pride in our counties but the history of the country we chose to live in and back is important to our sense of identity.
    Regards P.
I shall now start a similar thread.
