hi
my bro just phoned to tell me that he heard of a new find at the Roman fort site at Vindolanda in Northumberland by Hadrians Wall. He said it was some kind of metal object that they first thought was a brooch but isn't.
I'm going up there to dig in June and I was interested to see what they had found. But I cant find anything on the web. Can anyone help?

It was reported in yesterday's Times that "A bronze and silver brooch decorated with shields and Mars, the god of war, in Roman uniform has been unearthed with, unusually, the owner’s name — Quintus Sollonius, from the century of Cupius — stamped on a clasp on the back. The legionary soldier’s cloak brooch was found at Vindolanda Roman Fort, on Hadrian’s Wall near Bardon Mill in Northumberland."

hi, I was excavating at Vindolanda last week and they have a picture of the new find in the hut. there was a great find when i was there the other team found a stone statue of mercury holding two money bags and he had an enormous phallus, the picture is also up. hope you have better weather than i did.
