I am trying to find out about musical instruments in the ancient world. In particular I am interested in the instruments generally known as Lyres.

Leonard Wooley dug up several in the 1920s and 1930s at Ur which takes us back to Summaria in about 2,600BC. By this time they were alreay fully developed instruments - so they must have existed for many years, possibly centuries before.

Does anyone know of any earlier illustrations, references etc?
