I would appreciate any help in two specific areas. First, what steps can be taken to find out more about a specific site. For example, Castle Hill (SU199039) in the New Forest. I have discovered a small amount of information, from a limited number of websites e.g. hillfort covering 5acres, single rampart and ditch, c.1,200BC. It appears to have been excavated in 1926 (with 12 palstave axes now being held in the British Museum). I even have a Scheduled Ancient Monument Number: 226. What would be the most profitable next step? Local libary, local archaeology group? Second, are there any good archaeology books that cover the New Forest in the prehistoric moment (i.e. from Neolithic onwards?)

Apologies for the discussion title, as this is my first posting on any board I followed the advice of making the title snappy. Can't get more snappy than a Led Zeppelin album (No response required for this last point!!)

Looks like English Heritage are to be contacted re: Scheduled Monuments - they may be able to provide more information for you or have/know of an archive that you can visit or otherwise access:
