Ok What I'm going to say can sound silly but has it already been considered to renovate the Pyramids and Sphynx ? With original technics?

How much would it cost ?

I'm not sure renovation would be possible especially using original techniques, even if it were the cost would be massive. It makes sense to preserve what we have, and prevent it from getting any worse. That in itself is a massive ongoing task.

Not a silly question, but a little strange perhaps. Do you think renovation is possible??....Would it be a wise move??

Hold on, where would it all stop? When the great Egyptian temple complexes were built the exteriors were all gaudily painted rather than the sombre bare stone that we see now. Do we paint them all again? It's important to have some sense of what the great monuments looked like when they were built but "restoration" is often an expression of the modern world's view of the past (and often badly done, perversely, damaging the orignal materials), or even an expression of one historian's fashionable view, an approximation, if you like. I agree that preservation is a more positive and a more realistic step -- and in most cases that's quite expensive enough! My view on it is that preservation doesn't stop degradation.
Take artistic paintings, they need to be retouched regularly in order to keep them in the same state. Maintaining is not a very proactive solution to the slow but inevitable and constant degradation...

Would be great to see the Great Pyramid in its original bright wight limestone coat.

I suppose the motto, if in doubt don't is the best motto though.

My personal favourite rebuild would be a renovation of the Tower of London.

It would be impressive to see, but at the risk of destroying one of the greatest monuments from early human history? Too risky.

All you have to do is look at the mess they have made attempting to repair the Sphinx. They have ruined it, and done more harm than good. I mean come on, they used mortar on it which was acidic and so corroded the underlying stone!

Utter stupidity, and an act of cultural vandalism. Much too risky, and once finished it would no longer be an ancient Egyptian pyramid, but a modern reconstruction.

couldn't we see that as an "hommage" to ancient history ?
I suppose that a progect like this one would need years of preparation and studies in order to not make the same mistakes than in the past (see DL).
