I was at Duxford yesterday - it wasn't great weather, but this was the 65th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, so it was probably the last time such an event will be held with participants being around in any numbers. The finale was a display by Spitfires, 8 of which performed a series of manoeuvres following each other across the sky and swooping at very low levels, while 2 more performed high loop the loops. My mother, who was a young girl in Surrey during the Battle said it brought back many memories of the engine sounds and the dogfights above her.

What is it with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ that such commemorative events did not rate a mention on the regional programmes nor was there any coverage of this rather special event, which quite possibly will not be repeated? Is it too much to ask - and it would have cost a fraction of the pay to some bimbo presenters!

Just as an add-on, the History front page marks today the 65th anniversary of the single greatest RAF success. So, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ if you were that bothered, where were you last weekend????

We had the Jersey International Air Display here on 15th - as at Duxford not great weather, which meant that the Red Arrows and the Eurofighter Typhoon couldn't do some of their best work, but still impressive. A number of others had to cancel completely.

Biggest disappointment - considering the special anniversary - was that due to bad weather the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight couldn't fly, nor could the solo Spitfire.

On the plus side, they've booked a Vulcan bomber for next year - very popular aircraft in Jersey.
