In a throwback to the old boards smiley - winkeye

The USS Indianapolis had been torpedoed by the Japanese sub before it reached Tinian Island and thus the A-Bomb had gone down with the ship?

    Would the U.S. / allies

Try and ship another bomb out to Tinnian, baring in mind /delays / cost availability of another bomb. Also baring in mind the Soviets may have tried to expand into Japan and invaded as a result of U.S. delay in getting another bomb out to the pacific?

Negotiate a surrender with Japan, who were keen to get out of the war but still keep their Emperor? Thus ending the war and saving thousands of lives

Or scrap the nuclear idea and proceed with the amphibious invasion of the Japanese mainland? At a probable cost of thousands of lives.

    hi enos,
they would ship out another one, but in the meantime, carry on with LeMays 300 bomber raids

the invasion was never really a viable plan as it just would have been too costly, IMO they would have just bombed and bombed and bombed and maybe '46, '47 there could be an invasion, but only of kyushu or whatever that islands name was, not too sure about tokyo just yet
