My great uncle Robert Murphy served as a captain in the merchant navy during the first world war. He was killed on board his ship ss Lough fisher in 1918. I have his Royal Navy records from the national archives but they don't have anything about his time in the Merchant navy.
Is there a place in London that I need to go to ?
Try The National Archives, Kew, and the National Maritme Museum in Greenwich.
