I'm trying to identify some cartridge boxes which I understand are British Army c.1800. Plain black leather decorated with a large yellow metal (I assume brass) badge in the shape of the Crown. Having done some googling (other search engines are available) - I don't have any suitable reference books to hand - I haven't been able to come up with anything. All the cartridge boxes seem to have the regimental number and/or badge in a rather small silver (or at least silver-coloured!) format, or are left plain.

I have some reason to believe that they are associated with the Foot Guards, but I can find no images of Guards troops with that form of badge on their cartridge boxes.

    Any ideas?

Your best chance of success is to post some pictures of them somewhere as often someone will spot some detail that you might miss.

I find the Yahoo Britregiments group a good source of knowledge on British Army history but I am sure there are other places.

You could also try some service museums - IWM, Army Museum, Guards Museum etc - they might also be interested in being donated one if you have several :=)
