Looking for a photograph of the above regiment with my great great uncle George Edward Dines 6237, he was with the 1st/18th Bn and sadly died in battle on 03/10/1916.
I recommend that you visit your local town library (perhaps the reference section), and ask whether they have 'The British Army of 1914' by Ray Westlake. It is a mine of information and also contains many pictures.
Given the date you mention, it seems possible that your relative may have died on the Somme front.
Further on message 2 by LG, you might look on the following page and I used to have something called 'The long, lonely trail' but this seem to have disappeared from my favourites.
