enjoyed the first one of the new series. The odd mistake though. Surely in the last series, the Flight sergeant was wearing a half wing of an airgunner, only to have full pilots wings, and is not the RAF wings on his shoulders out of place on aircrew?

I don't watch the programme, so I don't know about the internal storyline.
It would be unusual, but not impossible, for an air gunner to retrain as a pilot (essentially, he would need not to have gone through pilot selection prior to being trained as an airgunner.) I would tend to think it is a plot inconsistency to allow for future developments (I fear for the bloke's future, having read the blog).
The eagle insignia on the shoulders was a feature of RAF uniforms for non-commissioned ranks, not a groundcrew-only insignia. NCO aircrew wore the shoulder patch.

The second slip was the Lee Enfield issued to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Guard. It was the No 4 model. At this time in the story, they hadn't been issued to the regular troops.

Think you've got them there. Even "Foyle's War" managed to find some Ross rifles (although it did have an officer saluting without his hat on, oh dear, oh dear)
Cheers

Must have been American members of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Guard!!
Not American, Fred, surely they must have been Canucks?
Ur-Lugal. Sorry I missed your reply. I was of course, as you realised jesting as the US salute without hats. Strangely I had never thought or heard of any US or Canadian living in the UK during the war who was to old to serve, serving with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Guard. I wonder if any did?
Fred - Under certain circumstances, the RN also salute when hatless - or in my case, fail to do so and get a rocket off The Owner ashore.
