The Imperial War museum or some other institution could probably advise you..Possible the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ itself.. Sound like a story/programme here.

But if they are genuine Nazi propaganda you may need to be very careful what you do with them, because, for years the showing of these films as such was banned because they were considered just too powerful. You might notice that documentaries about the Nazi era often just show over and over the same clips that have been released.

As far as I am aware "The Triumph of the Will" and "The Eternal Jew"- major Nazi 'classics'- can still not be shown, unless things have changed recently.

I would also be careful where you store them. Old films have a tendency to burst into flames if store wrongly.

The first mentioned film is still available in the UK. IΒ΄ve seen them in HMV Stores in London for sale on DVD, Cass.

But if they are genuine Nazi propaganda ... because they were considered just too powerful.Β

ThatΒ΄s the reason for why you canΒ΄t buy them in Germany and I just once watched that film at the Cinema in the "Documentations Centre Reichsparteitage" in Nuremberg. Without comment, original tone and the film in its full lenght.

It was interesting to have seen it, but some elderly woman a few seats from me, looked very impressed (if not to say enthusiastic) after that film. I was wondering about her, whether she might have been there in her own youth time, that old as she looked like.

To the OP on this thread, I also would recommend to give these old films to the British Film Archive. They know how to deal with and how to handle it.

    Hi jamie1978,

It may take a little while for people to get back to you - I know from experience that inboxes get very busy! You could try ringing the IWM...

    Cheers

if there are any films about the opening ceremony of the 1936 olympics, I would love to be able to see a copy.

It might be worthwhile contacting the German Film Museum as well (it's in cologne I think). These films are definitely worth a lot.

What is surprising is, how did they end up at a house in England? And why?

If you need help translating some of the film titles, feel free to post them.

    Bubble Works,

The films of the Olympic Games in Berlin 1936 are available on DVD for purchase. If you are seeking to buy them, make sure that you can purchase a box set because there are two films made then (Olympia 1. Teil — Fest der Völker (Festival of Nations) and Olympia 2. Teil — Fest der Schönheit (Festival of Beauty).), which are to buy each as single DVD more expensive than to buy both in a box set.

What is surprising is, how did they end up at a house in England? And why?Β

Either they were brought up here by a German P.o.W. or by a British Soldier after WWII. Some Americans grabbed several stuff from that time to be taken home as "souvenir".

The German Film Museum is situated in Frankfurt/Main.

The below link is in English language, from the German Film Institut / Museum.
