Perfect line to describe the genius that was the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam.
Meh, drop enough ordnance on an area and you stand a chance of hitting something you can't see.
The vast majority of casualties in both World Wars were from mortars and artillery who probably couldn't see what they were hitting.
"drop enough ordnance on an area and you stand a chance of hitting something you can't see."
Hence the reason the American slaughtered so many Vietnamese civilians.
There are plenty of examples where an area was subject to either a heavy artillery bombardment or aerial bombing and someone said that "no one could survive that". But they did.
The success of the Viet Cong owed as much to American incompetence as to General Giap's 'Genius'.
It is possible to win a guerrilla war, but filling the country with trigger-happy foreigners may not be the best strategy.
there is a vietnam wall (in washington) detailing every one of the us war dead - 55000
there is no monument for the est 3-4 million vietnamese civilian war dead
st
RAF Bomber Command and the USAAF did alright in later WWII.
there is no monument for the est 3-4 million vietnamese civilian war deadΒ
That would be hard to achieve even with nuclear bombardment. Between 1950 and 1972 of the entire Vietnamese population, there were just over 220 thousand of South-Vietnamese military killed; 444 thousand NVA military and Vietcong fighters killed; and 587 thousand Vietnamese civilians killed on both sides. Of course another half a million to a million of the Vietnamese population was murdered after NVA had taken over South Vietnam.
