I watched this last night and enjoyed it. You could almost feel the tiredness of the men involved as the film went on.

I agree with all. Nice to see too the attention to detail, as in detachable shirt collars with studs much in evidence! Difficult book to dramatise I thought, so mention of the Spitfire marks used in the filming would be churlish in this instance.
It was enjoyable, and moving in parts; I thought the spoken pieces by Geoffrey Wellum were some of the strongest parts.
A hotchpotch of Spitfires, though at least they all had Merlins (as did the Spanish 109s and Heinkel 111s which I presume were in footage from the Battle of Britain movie). The leading men were a bit too 'pretty' which detracted from the realism a bit.
I found it all a bit low key compared to the book. You didn't get much sense of the 'positive' aspects eg excitement, patriotic & comradeship. Also they apparently invented a lot of scenes I don't remember from the book eg the dead parachutist & the cricket match.
I was also puzzled as to why they used a late model Spitfire (with 4 blade propeller & pointy shaped tail) for the scenes on the ground whereas the ones in the air all looked authentic BoB style. (were these scenes clips from another film and/or computer enhanced images??)
