More to the point, if they don't find it necessary to send their people off to get killed in foreign pestholes, what makes it necessary for us to do so?

To paraphrase (Abraham Lincoln, I think) "Never do anything that doesn't improve on inaction".

Since time began, soldiers only go or leave a place when ordered to by their King/President/Government. You will be able to count on one hand the ammount of times a soldier has woken up in the morning and said. "Hey, lets go and invade somewhere." You therefore cannot blame the soldier on the ground if their government back home decides that there are no votes to be won keeping their troops abroad.

    Hi all,

The top post was removed for breaking the House Rules. Given that this thread is now 'headless' I'm going to close it. However if anyone wants to start a new thread on the ups and downs of coalition warfare in history they are welcome to start a new one.

    Cheers

    Andrew
