Hi can anyone help me? My father was a mechanic/engineer servicing spitfires on an island off Burma (possibly Rangoon). Would anyone know what squadrons were stationed on what islands in this area so I can trace his history?
Thanks
According to "RAF Squadrons" by C G Jefford, these were the airfields on islands off the Burmese coast, and the Spitfire squadrons that were based on them at various times:
Kyaukpyu/Ramree Island - 273 Sqn, 615 Sqn
Dabaing - 67 Sqn
Akyab - 67 Sqn, 615 Sqn
There were quite a few airfields round Rangoon but not on islands as far as I can see (it's a small map!).
