Much thanks to all those who contributed to my last enquiry.
I have always been interested to know what would have happened to the 6 children (had they been captured) of Nazi propoganda minister Gobbels who were poisoned by their parents in the bunker in Berlin in 1945. I suppose they would have been captured by the Russians, and were poisoned to prevent this. I cannot imagine they would ever stood trial at Nuremberg like captured Nazi adults did, or that the Russians would have shot them out of hand.
In much of the film footage I have seen of this incident (albeit Hollywood versions) they came across as nice kids. As I'm sure they were.

    youngjerry,

Well, you could read about what happened to the children of Albert Speer?

And how the allies treated them?

If you are interested in the abomination that was the Third Reich, then I cannot recommend you too highly to the memoirs of Speer.

If as you suppose, that Goebbels had not killed his own children (and do we need a more sick and twisted than that act), and the Russians had captured his children, then?

You, if I may say so, confuse the acts on the ground, with a policy. It's all right to kill opposition soldiers, I'll agree, but not right to kill civilians.

When the opponent doesn't wear a uniform, the line becomes blurred?

    AA.

"...or that the Russians would have shot them out of hand..."

I think that the Soviet troops could well have treated them in the same way as many females, including prisoners released from concentration camps were treated. It does not bear thinking about really.

But I think that the Goebbels killed their children because a Germany not ruled by the Nazis was not worth living in. A completely self-regarding act. They could easily have got their children to safety. They chose not to.

In actual fact, children of Nazis were not treated badly after the war.

    Kids are kids.
With any luck they would have survived and grown-up to be useful members of society.
That is our huge hope for the future, our children don't replicate all the troubles of the past and start afresh.
Even Von .... (Valkerie) his family was not suprisingly too bothered by Hitler's henchmen and survived the war.
The Goebbel's action pretty well says it all for their manic outfit-totally twisted.

    thanks IAN
