I've watched Braveheart last week on the Italian TV, but I don't know this aspect of the Bannockburn battle.
In fact English were heavy beat by Scottish because Scotland is going to be independent by London (I mean the recent project of independence)and the main ancestor of the Royal Family is Mary of Scotland, isn't it?
But why Scottish rugby team it's so weak (Absit iniuria verbis, I respect the Scottish Rugby Player)?

Because Rugby is very much a minority sport in Scotland. There are more rugby players in Italy than there are in Scotland.
I have lived long enough to see Wales beat Italy at soccer, and Italy beat Wales at rugby.
Does this mean the Tooth Fairy may really exist, and there may even be an Honest Politician found before I die?
Bannockburn was lost because Edward II was totally incompetent.

Surely it's a case of Bannockburn being lost by the English and won by the Scots because Edward II was incompetent compared to Robert the Bruce.
For example, the neutralisation of the English archers who destroyed the Scottish infantry on other occasions probably had more to do with skillful selection of the battleground and tactics on the day by the Scots than on Edward's incompetence.

Yes - Wales beat Italy in Cardiff (at soccer) in October 2002 only for 4 months later for Italy to beat Wales in Rome at (rugby) Union in February 2003.
Italy has beaten Wales more than once though at Union most recently in 2007 during the Six Nations Championship.
Well the midges appeared yesterday morning for the first time this year on time and how they loved getting inside my welding mask so they may well have played a part at Banockburn(cannot remember the time of year)-it must have been hell in helmets with midges about.
No doubt being able to fire down on the English as they crossed the boggy tidal salt marshes towards Stirling Castle also helped. If the tide was up and flooding the marshes this would have made matters even worse as the only high dry ground was held by the Scots.
