It was a long conflict and a regular conflict (there's a peace treaty) but no one died.
Bye

Salve Alexander, Basileos Makedon!

Salve Catigern King of The brave Britons,
It is an interesting hypothesis and it isn’t so far from the solution but it isn’t it.
Bye
Good Luck to all Fulham FC supporters!
Is it the Pig War between Britain and the US?
For several allied countries the second world war was bloodless, thanks to joining late enough to not see action.

Is it something to do with Berwick-upon-Tweed or Guernsey or some such?
Berwick-upon-Tweed Â
I doubt it's Berwick as the thing about them being at war with Russia for yonks is an urban myth.

It isn’t the Pig war but Britain was involved in some way.
Guernsey, it isn’t so far from the solution.
This conflict can stay in The Guinness Book of World Records.
The belligerents were allied and enemy in the same time.
When the conflict started the have a resembling flag.
Iirc that the Principality of Andorra declared war on the Central Powers in WW1 (though no Andorrans fought or died in it) and didn't get round to making peace until about 1960.

Mikestone8,
Good shot, because the evolution of the solution’s conflict is like that.
But it isn’t.
Another clue: It was involved an old European Navy force well known by RN.

hello Stoggler
yes - I know that the Berwick-upon-Tweed story is a myth but whether or not in the 1960s (on supposedly concluding a peace treaty with a Soviet diplomat) the Mayor of Berwick ever really said "Please tell the Russian people that they can sleep peacefully in their beds." the line is so brilliant that it means that the myth will deservedly live on.
-------------------------------------------------
Alexander - when you say
Guernsey, it isn’t so far from the solution.Â
this could mean that it perhaps involves Jersey and a war with France or America or somewhere. But then you say that the flags were resembling which suggests that it could involve, say, Denmark and Switzerland. Intriguing if not perplexing.

Vizzer aka U_numbers,
when I say: Guernsey, it isn’t so far from the solution, I mean that it involved an island like that, a little island.
About the flag I can say that Denmark and Switzerland are too far from the solution.
Another information about the flags: they've a color that It used to represent a religious group.
this could mean that it perhaps involves Jersey and a war with France or America or somewhere. But then you say that the flags were resembling which suggests that it could involve, say, Denmark and Switzerland. Intriguing if not perplexing.Â
Were the Channel Islands stiill at war with the Netherlands - since Charles II's day?
Hiya Vizzer

I did wonder if that's why the myth lives on! I imagine that was a nice bit of PR for the Soviets during the Cold War, rather than any real belief that Berwick really was technically at war with Russia (or the USSR, the then successor state to Russia).
However, Wiki says this:
... Jim Herbert of the Berwick Borough Museum said in 2006 that contemporary newspaper reports did not confirm that a treaty had been signed, nor could Knox's remark to the Soviet official be verified, presuming a Soviet official came to BerwickÂ
And the link below who interviewed the local museum's curator confirms that - there is no sign of a treaty.
All very interesting!

hi Stoggler
I wonder if the 'Russian diplomat who finally signed a "peace treaty" with the mayor of Berwick in the 1960s' was anything to do with the Soviet soccer team at the 1966 FIFA World Cup. They were indeed based in the north east of England and played their First Round matches in Middlesbrough and Sunderland. It's possible that the Soviet foreign ministry authorised some sort of 'goodwill' visit to Berwick as part of a charm offensive during the tournament.
The 1966 World Cup was also the Soviet Union's most successful World Cup with them reaching the Semi-Finals. It's conceivable, therefore, that an informal meeting between a Soviet official and the Mayor of Berwick, the passing of pleasantries regarding the myth of the ongoing 'war' and a subsequent signing of a guestbook could easily be portrayed as something quite different. This is all just supposition of course.

hello Alexander
The Three Hundred and Thirty Five Years' War? I have to say that I'd never heard of that one. Amazing!
Not only was it mankind's longest war but perhaps also its Scilliest.
