One problem with this site is that you can communicate direct with someone.

I would suggest you ask on a family history forum/message board/mailing list for either that area of Derbyshire, Canada or military. I have seen quite a number of cases where whole lists of names on war memorials have been identified.

    These should get you started.

I presume you have checked the CWGC Debt of Honour?

This message forum has many people knowledgeable about the RAF, they might have access to some reference works.

The Canadian Archives have some WWII records online as well as their Lest We Forget project

Hi MB,thanks for taking an interest in this subject.

I thought you might like to know the latest news,I have had a talk with Gerald Plant the brother of the deceased, who has bequeathed the monies for the memorial. And he was going to get the details finalized.

One reason for the delay is the stone, had to be same kind as the Crags,The only place it could be found was China, so it's had to be imported.(That's how daft we are in this Country). With it being an Heritage site you have to conform to their wishes.

Hears the good news, the families of the Canadian Airmen that lost their lives, are being invited over for the dedication of the memorial all expenses will be paid. (Including Air fares)

The stone will stand 48inch x36inch. main base 48inch x18 inch. Top right hand corner will be a Wellington Bomber.followed by the names of the Aircrew. At the bottom left will be the names of five Creswell airmen who lost their lives, one was a close friend of the deceased, who kindly donated the memorial.

The Canadian Aircrew have pupil in front of their names e.g. Pupil Pilot W.MURDIE P/O Which may sound a little derogatory as they were all trained.

I would like to thank the Plant family for supplying this information.

    BEST WISHERS ROYBOY
